The Story

I keep having the same dream coming back to me. The same dream the same nightmare. This nightmare has followed me as long as I can remember.

This book contains images that I shot after surviving a car accident. A few days after the accident my wife and I took our two dogs (Dachs hound) Freud and Frida for a walk to a place called World’s End, which is just a few minutes from our farm. It was a sunny winter day, a clear sky with no clouds, just the sun shining. With the camera strapped around my neck I started taking pictures. I shot many pictures and I normally don’t do that.

I always work in series. Often the series is finished over a long period of time. But this time it was different. The images in this book were all shot at the same day in a short period of about one hour. I don’t know what happened but so it did. After returning to our farm I started working on my photographs and I worked fast, much faster than I ever did before. Usually I am working on my images for several months. This time I was finished with my images in just a few hours.

At the time I did not recognise what was I was doing, because these images are different from all the images I have ever done before. So I left the images on the Mac wondering what this was all about, what I had done and why.

A few days after the accident I had a dream. It was a nightmare. Again I had the same nightmare that had followed me my whole life. When I woke up I walked slowly to the office above my gallery towards my Mac feeling a bit scared. I opened up my images and then I suddenly understood that I had photographed my nightmares.
